This new piece of equipment is extremely manoeuvrable and flexible and will help ensure the safe and efficient movement of boats around the yard, as well as off and on lorries and trailers. It will be used in conjunction with a recently purchased ABI boat mover and will further enhance the yard’s boat repair and maintenance capabilities.

The new hoist has been supplied by Wise Handling of Bradford, specialists in lifting solutions for the marine industry, and is the result of careful research and good knowledge of boats and lifting. There has been a large amount of ground work to prepare the site for the new travel hoist including piling, concrete ground beams and new quay heading. We have built a new wash-down pad for our eco-friendly closed loop boat wash-down system where we use harvested rain water to wash boats as we lift them out of the water and then filter the water before re-using it.

The new hoist can lift boats ranging from 8 feet to 70 feet in length, weighing between 100 kg and 35 tonnes with fully adjustable strap positions. The whole machine is totally remote-controlled and is driven by the operator on the ground. The lift is self-propelled and can be driven around the yard. The machine will be operated by Cox’s fully trained staff.

We have also purchased a JCB Telehandler 535-95 due to the retirement of the crane and fitting the new boat travel hoist. The telehandler will enable us to lift engines in and out of the boats and be more efficient included moving boats on trailers. It will also allow us to load and unload materials needed for the workshop and marina and to reduce the amount of manual handling

The purchase of the JCB Telehandler has been supported by the New Anglia Business Growth Programme which is part-funded by the European Union small grant scheme.
